Concert FAQs
What are acceptable forms of identification?
All guests who appear to be 40 years of age or younger must present valid, current proof of age before being served alcoholic beverages. Acceptable forms of ID include a state-issued driver’s license, a state-issued ID card, or a United States military ID card. Please note that paper or temporary IDs are not accepted. Alcohol service may be discontinued at any time at the discretion of management.
Are there age restrictions for events?
Some events at the Surf Ballroom are restricted to guests 21 and older. If a show has an age restriction, it will be clearly noted in the event description. For all events, guests aged 16 or younger must be accompanied by an adult and must have their own ticket for entry. If you have any questions, please contact the Box Office at (641) 357-6151.

How does seating work?
Built in 1948, the Surf Ballroom features a large dance floor in front of the stage, surrounded on two sides by tiered booth seating. For most events, tickets are general admission, and unless otherwise noted, the dance floor is open for dancing, standing, and viewing the show.
Booth upgrades are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each upgrade reserves an entire booth; however, please note that a booth upgrade does not include admission to the event—you must also purchase a general admission ticket.
Due to fire code regulations, personal folding chairs are not permitted inside the venue. Limited first-come, first-served seating is available in the lounge area.
The Surf Ballroom is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all guests. We offer designated accessible seating for individuals with mobility needs, along with companion seating to ensure comfort for all members of your party.
Accessible seating is available for most public events and can be reserved in advance by contacting our box office. If you have questions or need special accommodations, our team is happy to assist in making your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Can I bring my own chair?
Where can I smoke?
The Surf Ballroom is a 100% smoke-free building. This includes vaping and e-cigarette use. Smoking outside is subject to Iowa state law.
Can I promote or hang flyers at events?
No. Unauthorized soliciting, vending, or distribution of promotional materials (including in the parking lot) is not allowed unless approved in advance by management.
Are tickets refundable or exchangeable?
When do Winter Dance Party tickets go on sale?

Seating Layouts
General Admission Seating
Most of our events feature general admission, standing-room-only access. The standard layout includes open floor space with tiered booth seating available as an optional upgrade. Booth upgrade prices vary by event and must be purchased separately from general admission tickets.
Please note: While most events are standing-room-only, select performances may include tables and/or chairs on the floor. We recommend checking the event listing for specific seating details.
Alternate Seating Layouts
Certain events may feature alternate layouts to enhance the concert experience. Examples include:
- Big Band: Classic cabaret-style layout with tables for a more intimate vibe.
- Tables on Floor: Tables are arranged throughout the main floor for relaxed viewing and dining.
- Seated Events: Full floor seating with rows of chairs for a traditional concert experience.
- Tables & Chairs on Floor: A hybrid setup offering both table seating and individual chairs.
Please note: The above examples are for reference only. Actual seating arrangements vary by event. For the most accurate information, refer to the event’s individual page or contact our Box Office.
