Winter Dance
Party Rockin’ Kid’s Show

Grades: K–5
When: Annually during the first week of February
Bring your students to the legendary Surf Ballroom for a rockin’ good time they’ll never forget! Held during our annual Winter Dance Party celebration, the Rockin’ Kid’s Show is a high-energy, on-site concert experience designed especially for elementary students. This exciting performance honors the legacy of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, offering a fun and meaningful way to connect with music history.

The show takes place on the same historic stage where the legends once performed, making it an unforgettable learning opportunity that blends music, history, and community celebration.

Each year, the historic Surf Ballroom hosts an immersive Master Class experience designed for high school students interested in music and creative careers. This interactive, on-site program provides students with firsthand insight into the music industry and related fields, inspiring them to pursue their passions while offering practical advice on turning creativity into a career.

This year’s Master Class features Ryan Sheeler, Lecturer in the Department of Music at Iowa State University and instructor of *The History of American Rock n’ Roll*. Students will explore the roots of rock music, gain a deeper understanding of its cultural impact, and learn how artists and entrepreneurs built careers from their talents.
