Visitor Relations & Educational Programming Internship

Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2025

Looking to gain real-world experience in a dynamic and historic music venue? The Surf Ballroom & Museum—an iconic concert hall and nonprofit cultural hub in North Iowa—is now accepting applications for its Visitor Relations & Educational Programming Internship.

This part-time summer internship (~20 hours/week) offers hands-on experience in museum operations, education programming, customer service, and event support.

About the Role

Interns will work closely with our team to support day-to-day operations and assist in delivering high-quality visitor and educational experiences. Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting museum guests and assisting with merchandise sales in the gift shop
  • Supporting the Education Coordinator with group tours and summer programs
  • Performing general office tasks (emailing, scanning, mailing, etc.)
  • Handling ticket and box office sales
  • Answering incoming calls
  • Assisting with live events (admissions, ID checks, beverage ticket sales, etc.)

Who We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates are reliable self-starters who can multitask, adapt quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Preferred fields of study include Marketing, Communications, Education, Public Relations, or related disciplines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational and planning abilities
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused thinking
  • Enthusiasm, sociability, and a collaborative attitude

About Us

The Surf Ballroom is a historic landmark and cultural center in North Iowa, operated by the non-profit North Iowa Cultural Center and Museum (NICCM). The NICCM’s mission is to preserve the Surf Ballroom and enhance the local quality of life by providing cultural, educational, and entertainment experiences. The organization is managed by a board of directors, staff, and various committees.
